NAT permite que múltiples usuarios LAN puedan compartir una única cuenta ISP sobre la línea ADSL, eliminando así la necesidad de dar de alta una cuenta por cada persona para acceder a Internet. El SMC7904WBRA incluye un firewall con inspección de datos (SPI), privilegios de clientes y prestaciones para detectar intrusiones externas que hace que su red este invisible desde fuera. También soporta "VPN pass-through" (IPSec-ESP Tunnel mode, L2TP, PPTP).
